The District

Even though this was a pretty quick trip, as we were only there for three full days, we really did a lot and it felt like we got a good chunk of time there.  On our last day, Joe met up with his brother Bob and they took Alex out to the big Air and Space museum.  Alex was so excited for "boys' day!"  It's been great to be able to see Bob so many times in the last couple of years, both in our state and in his!!

Alex was also thrilled that they got to stop at Uncle Bob's house to meet his two dogs.  He's seen lots of pictures, heard many stories, and has even seen them on FaceTime, but he had never met Max and Coco!  They were fast friends!

While the boys were out and about, Steph and I had some good "girl time" too!  We went into Washington DC and first walked through the Botanical Gardens and Conservatory.  It was really beautiful!

We then walked down the street to the Library of Congress, but first stopped to take a picture of the Capitol as we went by.  I just love being in DC and seeing all of these sites... I'm not sure if it's the history, or if I've been watching too much of The West Wing lately, but I'm just fascinated with it all.

The Library of Congress was another beautiful building with all of these high painted ceilings.  Amazing.

After a fun lunch (and one of the best grilled sandwiches I've ever had... brie cheese, spinach, and caramelized onions!!) and some solid coffee shop time, we met back up with the boys!  Even though we did a lot of "tourist-y" things it was also fun to just hang out and go to "Burgers", meet some of Steph's friends, work on the awful van Gogh jigsaw puzzle, and have late night Wendy's in the living room!  The Calvillo's are awfully lucky to have such a wonderful friend as Steph, and we were all a bit sad to leave her.  After a few tears and another uneventful flight (oh, besides me getting bumped to first class!) we made it back to our house and our dog.  We had such a great trip and couldn't have asked for a nicer break from normal life!  Can't wait to visit again soon!!

(Jilly had a little too much fun at Doggie Daycare and crashed on the couch about 20 minutes after we got home!)
