Adjustments

In a moment our lives have changed... Alex has officially jumped from being a preschooler to being a big school aged kid.  In some ways I dreaded his first day of school.  I knew there was no turning back, we were heading into a new season of life, one that was dictated by the Public School System.  I couldn't believe that we were going to take our sweet boy and drop him off in that big brick building and leave him there.  Deep breath.

The fact is, that Alex was so ready to go to school... he was ready to be challenged and ready for kindergarten.  I, of course, knew this all along, but wasn't quite willing to let go of my baby boy.  One night before school started, Alex asked me, "Mom, are you sad that I'm going to school?"  Uh oh.  I tried to explain what he couldn't understand.  "Alex, I just can't believe you are growing up so fast."

Not only is he loving kindergarten, but he is flourishing!  He adores his teacher, has made friends in his class, and is learning so much Spanish!!  The school Alex is attending is a dual language immersion school, which means that 90% of his day is in Spanish.  So far, we have been so happy with his school experience!

It has been an adjustment, though.  Our schedule has changed a lot.  We are getting up so much earlier to get Alex to school on time, and Alex is going to bed a lot earlier too.  We're adjusting to our new normal!

In addition to loving school, Alex is also loving soccer.  He had his first "game" this last weekend and Grandma and Grandpa came to watch!  Alex has a great coach who is very patient and is teaching the kids a lot about soccer.  This is a great sport for Alex because he can run and run and run!
