We just returned home from our family vacation!! Joe, Alex, and I got in Rocket (our minivan!) and drove out to the panhandle of Nebraska to visit Joe's family. The spring before Joe and I got married, we drove out to Nebraska so that I could meet his parents, and even though it was a long drive, we had a lot of fun together! I, with a hint of nostalgia, suggested to Joe that we drive out again this summer with Alex. Joe reluctantly agreed (he would rather fly!) So, last Friday we picked up Alex from South Dakota (where he had enjoyed VBS at my mom and Mark's church for the week) and began our long journey west. After about 14 hours, we arrived in Mitchell, NE, the town where Joe grew up. It was great to see Joe's dad, Frank. I am so thankful for the time that we had with him this past week. I'm glad that Alex will have these memories of spending time with his Grandpa Vargas.
One of the first things that we did, was to head out to the top of the Scottsbluff Monument. Western Nebraska is beautiful country, as you can see. Alex loved looking out the binoculars and trying to find Chimney Rock and Grandpa's house.
