This & That

Time gets away from me sometimes and I realize that it's been too long since I've blogged!  Here are a few highlights from the last few weeks!

Alex reached his goal for the Read a Thon!  He read 1609 minutes (his goal was 1260 minutes) and had lots of wonderful people support him too!  His school also reached their goal of reading over 2 million minutes so the principal had to eat green eggs and ham in front of the school!  Alex got this cool t-shirt for meeting his goal!

This past week, Alex had his Spring Break!  We started things off by picking him up from school on Friday and heading to Pierz, MN for a church retreat!  Our family is a part of a new church plant and we went on a retreat to plan, pray, prepare, fellowship, and just get to know each other better.  Our group was so blessed by a family who let us use their beautiful cabin for the weekend!  It was a fantastic weekend where 10 adults and 3 kiddos shared in the vision for The Table Covenant Church!  Alex had fun playing with the other kids, going on nature walks, reading, and playing games.  Joe and I were truly blessed by our new church family and we had lots of time to talk, learn, and laugh!  This was our view out the huge windows over looking Lake Sullivan!

One we got home from the retreat we had a just a couple of days before Alex headed to South Dakota for a few days to stay with Gramma and Grandpa!  They had so much fun going to the zoo, launching rockets, playing games, going to the Prom Grand March, science experiments, and Tun of Fun (tunnels and inflatables, what could be better?!)  I absolutely love this picture that they sent me while walking in the woods near the LaBolt Dam...

While Alex was in SD, I had an overnight sleep study at the hospital.  Many people heard me complain about it and I was totally dreading it.  I was mostly nervous that I wouldn't be able to sleep.  It wasn't as bad as I anticipated.  I tossed and turned for a long time, but did finally fall asleep for a few hours.  Joe wasn't quite as lucky and slept terribly on an uncomfortable couch in a room across the hall!  We joked that Joe was going to take a picture of me with all the crazy wires stuck to my face and head and post it on Facebook... sorry folks, there was no way that was going to happen! :)  We did do some fun things while Alex was gone, including a fun spontaneous date night at The Lowry and then home to watch Catching Fire!  We also had a super fun dinner with our friends Vanessa and George, and had yummy food and enjoyed some live music while chatting with our dear friends!

We also picked up our newest foster dog, Mia!  She's a super cute afghan/lab mix puppy who's just 3 months old!  She is a super sweet girl and she's really starting to get used to being at our house!  She has some vet appointments this week and then she'll be ready for adoption!  Alex was pretty excited to come home and meet her!

Our days have been full lately, but most days I feel like it's so worth it... being involved with things we love, church, family, dog rescuing, school, it all feels very worthwhile and some days it's a bit tiring, but also very rewarding!
