Cold....

The month of January has had such crazy weather.  It has been so very cold.  Except the one day when it was 35 degrees out and I didn't wear a coat.  Otherwise, cold.  Like windchill temperatures at -45 to -50 degrees.  Brrrrrr....

Today marked the 5th day of cancelled school this month due to the bitter cold.  It's been crazy!  In fact, combined with already scheduled days off and all of these "cold days", Alex has only been to school 10 days this month!  Our family is set up pretty well for unexpected days off school because Joe is home to take care of Alex, but I feel for families that have been scrambling with kids home.  But, I'm also so thankful that kids weren't exposed to these ridiculous temperatures waiting for buses or walking to or from school.  

Alex kept busy while he was out of school!  He played games, built legos, and did science experiments (throwing hot water in the air and watching it vaporize in the subzero temperatures!)  He read a bunch of books, practiced multiplication facts, and worked on homework.  He got some extra time playing wiiU and the iPad.  He also got to help dad with his errands (check out the awesome curtains that they found for our family room!!) and came down to have lunch with me at work.  It's always a little crazy when our normal schedule gets changed up, but we've managed to make the best of it!

P.S. In case you were wondering, I am SICK and TIRED of these cold temps!  I am so DONE with winter! (yes, yes, I know it's only January and that living in MN means that winter probably won't be done until April, and yes, yes, I know that last year it snowed on May 2nd  and who really knows when winter will end, but you know what...leave me alone, I'm freezing and this girl needs to whine about it from time to time!)
