Right before school got out for Winter Break, Alex's 2nd grade class performed a play of Jan Brett's book The Mitten. The students all did fantastic and entertained all of their family and friends with their stellar acting skills! Alex was one of the narrators and we were so proud of him for memorizing and delivering his lines without a hitch! Alex had many members of his fan club there to watch, including both sets of grandparents, Auntie Bon, and even his 6 day old cousin Evie!
After the performance we were all invited up to his classroom for a Cast Party, complete with signing of programs and fruit kabobs! It's so fun to see the kids work really hard and put on a show like this!
A look behind the scenes.....
Joe volunteered to help out with the set for the play. He went to a few meetings and worked with the teachers and another parent to come up with a plan! About two days before the play, Alex's teacher mentioned that it would sure be nice to have a fireplace on stage for one of the scenes. So, Joe asked around and when he couldn't find one, he announced to me at 9pm that night that he was heading to Menards to get supplies for making one! About three hours later, he had made an awesome fireplace for the stage. My husband is one talented guy!!! The set looked awesome and I was so proud of Joe for making it happen.

I loved The Mitten and seeing Alex's 2nd grade room. And that is an amazing and ingenious fireplace! Go Calvillo guys! Gramma L.
