Summer Fun!!

I can hardly believe that it is already the middle of August.  It feels like summer just started.  Alex starts school in less than two weeks.  So crazy!  I have to say, though, that we've had a really fun summer!!  I think that it's because we've taken time to do fun activities together, even if they are just an afternoon adventure here and there!  Like, one day we woke up to beautiful sunshine and decided it was the perfect day to take in a baseball game!

Another day the weather wasn't nearly so nice, so we took in a movie!  (Monsters University!!)

We took a trip over the 4th of July to South Dakota for some relaxation with family!  My step-dad won a drawing at the local fireworks shop for $500 worth of fireworks, so the boys had tons of fun shooting those off!  Gramma and Grandpa always like to have their grandsons visiting!

We've also enjoyed checking out some of the sights in our own backyard, like Fort Snelling State Park and the Minnesota Valley Wildlife Refuge.  It's been a blast exploring the great outdoors.  Alex loves looking for wildlife and watching for deer tracks!

Alex also went to Grandpa Steve and Grandma Chris's house for a couple of days and was so excited to visit the Anoka County Fair!  Grandma and Grandpa were troopers and spend most of the day riding rides (I think that was Grandpa's department), checking out the animals, watching a dog show, and eating fun food!  He tried to convince them that he needed a pet bunny (but they are only $20 Grandma!), but lucky for us my parents thought we may not appreciate that!

While Alex was gone, Joe and I had a nice date night.  Joe made salmon for dinner and then we went to Barnes and Noble (we perused the book shelves for as long as we wanted!) and Starbucks!  It was nice to just hang out together!

Sometimes we didn't even need to leave our backyard to have some summer fun!

We've still got a few more adventures planned before summer is over, but it sure has been great to spend time together and make lots of fun memories as a family!
