In an attempt to make Christmas and the time leading up to it, more meaningful, we got an Advent Calendar for Alex. For the 24 days leading up to Christmas, we would open a box on the calendar and read a Bible verse and Alex would get a little chocolate to eat (which he called his "advent treat"!) It was a nice opportunity to talk to him about the Christmas story and each night we would read through all of the boxes from the nights before, so by the end, he was helping us read! We all really enjoyed the time each night that we did the Advent Calendar, and I actually miss it now that Christmas is over! Well, something else to look forward to next year!
This is so sweet. I remember Bryce's first (and last) advent calendar. He was about Alex's age. I showed it to him and we had a piece of chocolate. I left the room and when I came back, it was Christmas. hahahaha! He had gone through several days of the calendar and he ate most of the chocolate! :-)
